If above-mentioned symptoms last for at least a fortnight they can be diagnosed as Depression. A problem in its diagnosis is that some other diseases like thyroid disorders may also mimic these symptoms.

Methods of Treatment

There are several known methods for treatment of Depression, such as ;

  • Medication:  Externally administered chemicals are introduced to the body, either by oral route or through veins. These Chemicals help in balancing out the disruption caused by depression.
  • Psychotherapy:   This is defined as “Talk Therapy”, a skilled and experienced psychiatrist will conduct therapy sessions with the victim in order to provide him with mental stability. Mild conditions of Depression have seen to be cured successfully by these therapies.
  • Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT): This method of treatment is used only for severely depressed patients and can have its own side effects. Basically, ECT is the transmission of electrical impulses through the patient’s brain while he is under the influence of anaesthesia. ECT is carried out multiple times for better results.

Probably the best thing a victim of depression can do is fighting it himself with all his determination and will power. Depressed people should tend to stay away from negativity and traumas as they can worsen their situation. But no matter what happens we should always keep our heads high because,

A person’s mind is so powerful that it can invent, create, experience, and destroy things with thoughts alone
